GUCA TEAMS UP WITH CONSTRUCTION EDUCATION FOUNDATION TO ATTRACT TOMORROW'S CRAFT WORKERS

There are two main reasons for the shortage of skilled craft workers in Georgia:
  1. A lack of low-cost skilled training programs.
  2. A negative image with our young people…tomorrow's workforce.

Construction Education Foundation of Georgia is taking action: with recruitment, mentoring and accreditation programs that get high school students actively involved with the construction industry. These high-quality, low-cost programs are specially designed to attract and develop future skilled workers for Georgia's construction companies.

CEFGA High School Programs are an excellent way to recruit and groom future members of your workforce…as well as a great way to give back to the community. The High School programs are fully supported by the services, curricula and resources provided by CEFGA: at little or no cost.

CEFGA HIGH SCHOOL PROGRAMS

Georgia CAN (Construction Awareness Network)

This is a highly successful Construction Industry High School Recruitment and Mentoring Program, based on a simple concept: get high school students involved in real construction projects, and they'll get involved in our industry.

Georgia CAN generates excitements and interest in our industry, through partnerships with high schools and construction companies and promoting interaction between students and the workforce on major commercial job sites and live projects. Construction companies sign up to work with a high school for an agreed-upon period of time, based on the duration of their projects) and the needs of the school.

High School Accreditation

It's easy for tomorrow's workforce to get the actual skills needed by qualified workers within the construction industry. In cooperation with the Georgia Department of Education, CEFGA is working successfully to accredit high schools across our state. Accredited high schools now offer NCCER industry standardized curricula in six major areas: HVAC, Plumbing, Carpentry, Electrical, Masonry and Metal Working.

Careers in Construction Magazine

One of the best ways to promote a positive image of the industry to the future workforce is through innovative forms of media, like Careers in Construction Magazine. Careers in Construction features articles about the construction industry in Georgia and the wide variety of career opportunities that are available.

With more than 12,000 copies distributed to high schools throughout Georgia, Careers in Construction is also a great vehicle for construction companies to each this important audience with advertisements and recruitment messages.
