Competent Person Excavation (CPE)                                                        
If your company performs excavation and trenching work, you must have an on-site Competent Person to oversee the work according to OSHA Standards, 29 CFR 1926.650 Sub Part P. NUCA has developed an excellent training course to prepare your employees for this critical task. This 8-hour NUCA training program is certified by the Georgia Construction Industry Licensing Board and meets requirements for the Utility Foreman. Attendees will learn excavation safety and will be tested prior to certification. This nationally recognized program uses NUCA certified instructors, a student reference manual, testing, and certification card good throughout the United States.

Confined Space Entry (CSE)                                                                                                              
Are your employees in man-holes, excavations, foundations, underground vaults, sewer pipelines, or any location where confined spaces can exist and cause hazards? If so, you are required by OSHA to understand the hazards involved in a confined space and train your employees on the hazards associated with confined space entry. This course is designed for owners, project managers, foremen and safety personnel to understand the hazards associated with confined space entry. This NUCA training program covers the techniques, methods, and equipment used to ensure a safe entry. This one-day, eight hour course, could save your life or the life of an employee.

OSHA 10-hour Course                                                                                                    
This 10-hour course covers basic safety issues of the Construction Industry Standard 29 CFR 1926. It is designed for supervisors, project managers, foremen, safety professionals, and owners. This course certifies the participant, which fulfills the criteria for qualifying for "Focused Inspection." The course covers a wide variety of topics including, but not limited to: Recordkeeping, Heavy Equipment Safety, Electrical Safety, Fall Protection, Excavation and Trenching Safety, Personal Protective Equipment, Fire Prevention and Protection, Hand and Power Tool Safety, Hazard Communication, and OSHA's Focused Inspection Initiative.

OSHA 30-hour Course      
This course will give you an overview of OSHA policies, procedures, and standards for the construction industry, as well as safety and health principles. Each section of the OSHA construction standard is covered with special emphasis placed on more hazardous areas, while using OSHA standards as a guide.  The 4-day (8 hours per day) course covers a variety of topics such as: Introduction to OSHA; Hazard Violation Search; Workshop; Health Hazards in construction; Materials Handling; Silica and Lead in construction; Damage Prevention; Recordkeeping; Signs Signals and Barricades; Electrical Safety; Fall Protection/Scaffolding; Excavation and Trenching Safety; Personal Protective Equipment; Welding; Cranes; Hazardous Communication; Traffic Control/Struck-by; Safety Programs/Safety Culture; Underground Construction; Respiratory Protection; Blasting; and, Confined Space Entry.

OSHA Recordkeeping
Construction companies with more than ten employees need to keep written OSHA records of all injuries, illnesses and fatalities.  These records are used by OSHA to target companies for inspections and to compare companies’ safety progress within an industry.  This seminar is for the employee in your company who keeps injury and illness records and for managers who want to decrease the risk of accidents and injuries by using the knowledge gained from the OSHA records.  Remember – these records are different than workers’ compensation records.

How to Handle an OSHA Inspection
This seminar covers: how OSHA inspections get started; what to do when OSHA visits your job site; what OSHA looks at during an inspection; how citations and fines are determined; and, what to do at an informal conference.

Temporary Utility Work Zone Traffic Control
This one-day, eight-hour course provides the participant with the necessary training to design, select, place, and maintain traffic control signs and devices used for temporary traffic control work zones and for incident management. This training covers the principles of proper traffic control practices, as outlined in the “New Millennium Edition Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD 2003),” and other established applicable standards and guidelines.

GDOT Approved Flagging Program                                                                             
This is a 4-hour course on the uniform flagging procedures established and approved by the Georgia Department of Transportation for utility and highway construction. Each participant receives hands-on and classroom training designed to give the student the knowledge and confidence to move traffic through a work zone effectively and safely.

GDOT Approved Flagging Instructor Course                                                            
This is an opportunity to learn how to train your own employees in Certified DOT Flagging. This 2-day course is designed to certify your personnel as flagging instructors to be able to train your employees as certified DOT flaggers when you need them.  Register today!

CPR/ First Aid                                                                                                                    
Would you and your employees know what to do if an emergency arose on a job site? Do you know CPR? Do you know it is mandatory OSHA requirement for someone at your job site to be certified in CPR? This 6-hour course is a must-have in your safety training program.

ISEE Blasting Certification Course                                                                                  
This program consists of a review of eight videotapes, eight workbooks, and eight quizzes developed by the International Society of Explosive Engineers.  This is the Level One program developed to educate blasters and establish a standard level of training for the explosives industry.  This course is approved by the Georgia Safety Fire Commissioner for certifying contractors who perform their own blasting.

NUCA Crew Leader
The NUCA Institute for Leadership Development offers this program that will give new and experienced field supervisors the basic tools they need to succeed in their position.  This two-day program is taught by an experienced construction professional who understands the challenges of being a crew leader.  The curriculum covers people management skills, the basics of safety management, and effective project control.  You must register through NUCA. GUCA Worksite Supervisor Course
This course was designed specifically at the request of GUCA members to help train those up and coming leaders from crews, etc.  This course is for potential and existing foreman, field managers, crew leaders, site superintendents and those just wanting to learn more about people skills, communication skills, safety management, productivity, project control, etc.  Attendees will be exposed to expectations on the job site, role in improving profits, working smarter versus working harder, industry trends, motivating crews, removing job site obstacles, company management skills, implementing your plans and much more.  This is a two day course lasting 8 hours each day.

NPDES Level 1A Course and Exam
The Level 1A Fundamental Course and Exam is designed to train contractors, builders, developers, site superintendents, utility and grading contractors, and monitor consultants in the proper installation, maintenance, and inspection of BMP’s on construction sites.  Topics covered in this course are fundamentals of erosion and sediment control, the Georgia Erosion and Sedimentation Act, NPDES Permits, maintenance, stream buffers, and vegetative and structural BMP practices.  This course is certified and the test is officially administered by the Georgia Soil and Water Conservation Commission.  You must bring photo identification to take the exam.

NPDES Level 1A Exam Only                                                                                        
This one hour OPEN BOOK STATE CERTIFIED EXAM ONLY is for those individuals who have failed a previous NPDES Level 1A course and exam.  You must bring photo identification to take this exam.

NPDES Level 1A Recertification Course
This 4-hour course for individuals needing to re-certify their NPDES Level 1A (Blue) card which expires every 3 years.  There will not be an exam for this re-certification course. Individuals that attend this course must present the instructor with government issued photo ID and current certification card or proof of valid certification (from GSWCC website). Individuals with multiple certifications must complete four hours of continuing education for each certification they wish to renew. Individuals can begin taking continuing education courses 1 year before their certification expires. Those individuals with 4 or more hours will receive a new certification card in the mail approximately two weeks before their certification expires. Those individuals that fail to obtain at least 4 hours of continuing education prior to their expiration date will have to retake the course and pass the exam before certification will be reinstated.

NPDES Level 1B Course and Exam 
GUCA also offers the two day Level 1B Advanced Fundamental Course and Exam for regulatory enforcement inspectors and those non-regulatory enforcement inspectors performing regulatory inspections.  This course covers the role of Inspector to help ensure site compliance and what types of enforcement action will be taken against those who fail to comply with the NPDES Permits, Erosion and Sediment Control in Georgia.  You must bring photo identification to take the exam.

NPDES Level 1B Exam Only
This one hour OPEN BOOK STATE CERTIFIED EXAM ONLY is for those individuals who have failed a previous NPDES Level 1B course and exam.  You must bring photo identification to take the exam.

NPDES Subcontractor Awareness          
The NPDES Subcontractor Awareness Seminar is mandated by Georgia law.  This two-hour seminar with no exam is to give individuals working in a subcontractor capacity an overview of erosion and sedimentation, the impacts erosion and sedimentation have on the environment, structural and vegetative Best Management Practices, and laws governing erosion and sedimentation.  The Subcontractor Awareness is required for individuals involved in land disturbing activities working in a subcontractor capacity under a primary, secondary or tertiary permittee.  It is important to note that a subcontractor certification does NOT qualify an individual to perform the duties of a “qualified” or “certified person/personnel.”  If you are performing such duties, a Level 1A certification is required.

Damage Prevention/ GUFPA Violation                                                                          
This Damage Prevention course involves an overview of the contractor’s responsibilities regarding the Georgia Utility Facility Protection Act, statistical data of injuries, fatalities and property damage, videos of Excavators Safe Work Practices, an overview of Georgia High Voltage Safety Act, Safe Work Practices for contractors due to non-locates, current law requirements and your legal responsibilities, how to file a PSC Complaint Form and respond to the PSC ruling, and what to do when you hit a utility line and accident procedures.  This class satisfies the PSC requirements for mitigation of a fine or damage to a utility.  If you have received a letter from the PSC, this is the class to take.  Note: If your company has been fined by the Public Service Commission, please provide the Public Service Commission (PSC) case number on the registration form.

Managing Damage Prevention                                                                                    
This proactive course is designed to help employees who are responsible for calling in locates for your company or for foremen who need to understand the locating process.  This course covers calling in locates, understanding the UPC’s PRIS system, large ticket process, white lining using sufficient particularity and how to file claims against utilities for not locating utility facilities correctly.

Basic Common Sense Construction Law                                                                     
This is an 8-hour course designed to introduce contractors (from the owners and officers of construction companies down to project superintendents) to the basic construction law principles needed in order to succeed in today’s construction arena.  The hardbound book, Smith, Currie & Hancock’s Common Sense Construction Law, 3rd Edition (2005) is used as the written materials for this program.

Practical Construction Project Documentation
This is a 4-hour course in practical construction project documentation designed to introduce construction personnel to important contract provisions and the basic principles they should be aware of to properly document their projects. It provides practical tips, guidelines, checklists, and forms which can be used to help avoid, resolve, and win construction claims and disputes through better project documentation.

Recognizing, Avoiding & Managing Legal & Contractual Risks
This 4-hour course entails: the risky nature of construction; construction contracts as tools for risk allocation; key contract provisions; killer contract clauses; tips for managing risk; vehicles for dispute resolution; and, new and forthcoming developments in legal & contractual risks.

Local, State, & Federal Immigration Rules
This 4-hour course is an overview of local, state and federal immigration rules and common employment mistakes for the utility contractor. The course includes an overview of the Georgia’s Security and Immigration Compliance Act and the new no-match regulations. Attendees will learn: steps to take upon receipt of a no-match letter; social security card issues; immigration compliance act obligations; and, common employment law mistakes.

Georgia Lien & Bond Law
This 4-hour course covers the Georgia Lien Law and the Georgia Statutes pertaining to Payment and Performance Bonds as well. This program addresses the theory behind these statutes, their purpose and effect, the circumstances in which they apply, and their requirements. The course provides practical guidance into how to preserve, pursue, and defend lien and bond claims, and the written materials include sample forms and other useful information.

Respiratory Protection                                                                                                   
If your employees enter confined spaces, core manholes, or use hazardous chemicals they may be exposed to hazardous atmospheres.  If the hazardous atmospheres, to which they are going to be exposed cannot be eliminated or controlled through continuous ventilation your employees will have to wear respirators.  This seminar is intended to help your company implement a “Respiratory Protection Program.”  This seminar will cover the OSHA requirements for respiratory protection.  Topics include:  choosing the right respiratory for the right job and hazards; what’s included in a written “Respiratory Protection Program”; and, the requirements for fit testing and medical evaluations.  Remember – even if you require your employees to wear dusk masks, you will need to have a respiratory protection program.

Introduction to New Confined Space Standard                                                   
This may be the most significant of recent OSHA news for the construction industry.  After 14 years, OSHA has published in the Federal Register a proposed confined space entry standard for the construction industry.  The proposed standard outlines significant procedures that construction companies will have to take if their employees are going to enter confined spaces.  Come to this seminar and learn about these procedures and how they will affect your current confined space entry program.  It is recommended that you should already have taken the competent person in confined spaces course.

Fall Protection                                                                                                                   
Falls are still the number one cause of fatalities in the construction industry.  Contractors whose employees are exposed to falls have to meet OSHA fall protection requirements.  This seminar covers the hazards associated with falls and methods to protect workers from falls.  Topics covered include: fall protection, scaffolding safety and ladder safety.

Steel Erection                                                                                                                    
This seminar covers the OSHA Steel Erection Standard for Construction.  Topics to be covered include: Site Layout Requirements; Hoisting and Rigging Systems; Engineered Metal Buildings; Falling Object Protection; Fall protection; Worker Training; Site-Specific Plans; and, Structural Steel Stability Requirements for column anchorage, beams, and columns, open web steel joists and structural steel assembly.

Safety for the Small Contractor                                                                                     
This seminar introduces the small contractor, who is trying to implement safety on the job site, to a “four-point approach to safety and health protection.”  This approach usually does not involve large costs and generally does not require additional employees.  Topics to be covered include: Safety and Health Management – The Basics; Identifying and Controlling Hazards; Safety Accountability, Incentives and Recognition; OSHA Regulations and Recordkeeping; Developing a “Hazard Communication Program”; and, “Putting It In Writing.”  This seminar will also provided the small contractor with sources for free or reduced cost training materials, mock job site inspections and OSHA consultations.

Crane Safety
This training has been designed to provide job site managers, not operators, with crane safety awareness.  Topics to be covered include: The Crane Safety Responsibilities of the Crane Owner, Crane Operator and the Job Supervisors; Recognizing Danger Signs for Crane Misuse, Recognizing Unsafe Crane and Rigging Practices; Determining Crane Operator Qualifications; Crane Inspection Requirements; and, Job Site Crane Safety Work Rules.

NUCA Pipelayer Training- “Excavation, Trenching, Manholes & Backfilling”
This NUCA course demonstrates the individual and team skills required for efficient and safe water and sewer pipe installation using modern equipment and technologies. The training sections covered include: Safety, Trenching, Bedding, Backfilling, Manholes, Dewatering, and Tie-ins.  NUCA CEO Bill Hillman believes “crew leaders and team members who complete this real-world training program will work together more proficiently and are more likely to get the job done right the first time, without wasting valuable materials or making unnecessary and costly installation errors.”

Utility Manager License Exam Review
This class helps those who have been approved to take the Georgia Utility Manager License exam. The Exam Review Course is always scheduled prior to the actual exam date. This 4-hour course is designed strictly as a review of the materials studied to prepare for the state exam.  The course will use books required for the test and techniques on how to use them. Class dates may change due to state schedules beyond our control.
