REGULATION AVAILABILITY

Do your field supervisors know where to find the applicable regulations and the reference material (OSHA Construction Regulations 1926) available to them? Do they have a copy in the jobsite trailer or the company vehicle? Do you know the books are generally updated annually and should be replace periodically? Do you know you can purchase copies of  the OSHA Construction Regulations from the Government Printing Office or from NUCA at www.nuca.com? State regulations are sometimes a little more difficult to obtain but they are available. You can download the OSHA regulations from www.osha.gov and find some state regulations on the Internet. The bottom line is you cannot realistically hold field supervisors accountable for failure to comply with regulations if they don’t know the regulations.

If your company is committed to providing a safe place to work, invest in field supervisor safety and health training. Send your supervisors to an OSHA 10-hour Construction course or another safety training course that will help them be better, more safety conscious supervisors.
