Safety & Education
STATEWIDE TRAINING
GUCA offers safety, educational and regulatory training courses throughout the state which includes: NPDES, Damage Prevention, Competent Person Excavation, Competent Person Confined Space Entry, Utility Manager License Exam Review, ATSSA Flagging Program and much more.
Our training is open to anyone who needs to meet safety and regulatory requirements in the construction industry.
We provide discounts to members of the association. If you need company-wide training, we can come to you. You may find it more economical to join GUCA to receive the discounted class rates. Click here for information regarding GUCA membership.
SAFETY/EDUCATION CLASS:
Please note GUCA practices the following Guidelines.

GUCA provides a safe, clean, and sanitized environment by wiping down classroom tables, chairs, door handles, etc. with virus killing cleaning agents.

Hand sanitizer will be available for students’ use while in the classroom.

Temperature checks may be administered prior to entering the classroom.

GUCA reserves the right to turn anyone away with a fever of over 98.6 degrees. This will be considered a no-show.

If there is a spike in any respiratory disease, face masks may be required when attending GUCA Safety and Educational classes.

GUCA reserves the right to reduce class size to create a safe social distancing environment (first paid registered first attending).

GUCA may also reserve the right to increase class size, which may result in a mandatory face mask requirement.

Students registered for a class who have been exposed to respiratory disease and running a fever; or have any symptoms of any illness are asked not to attend class.

Upon 24-hour written notification by the company prior to the day of class, the student who has been exposed to or has a contagious disease will be transferred to the next scheduled class at the same location only.

A notification or no-show on day of class is not acceptable for a refund or transfer to another class.

Competent Person Excavation (CPE)
This 8-hour course is certified by the Georgia Construction Industry Licensing Board and meets part of the 12 hour requirement for the Utility Manager License and Utility Foreman Certification. OSHA requires that you have a competent person on site while workers are present and the excavation is open.
Competent Person Confined Space Entry (CSE)
This 7-hour course is certified by the Georgia Construction Industry Licensing Board and meets 7 of the 12 hour requirement for the Utility Manager License and the Utility Foreman Certification. This course is designed to train owners, project managers, foremen, and safety personnel on the hazards associated with confined space entry. It covers the techniques, methods, and equipment used to ensure a safe entry. OSHA requires a competent person on site when employees enter a confined space.
National Safety Council CPR/First Aid/AED
This 6-hour hands on course will cover the following topics: Recognize a medical emergency; handle breathing and cardiac emergencies; act appropriately and effectively and sustain life until professional help arrives, prevent disease transmission and identify and care for bleeding, sudden illness and injuries. OSHA requires someone on site that is certified in CPR/First Aid/Automated External Defibrillator procedures unless a clinic or hospital is within 4 minutes of the job site.
Worksite Utility Coordination Supervisor (WUCS)
This 4-hour course provides an overview of the contractor's responsibilities regarding the Georgia Utility Facility Protection Act (GUFPA) and what is required to comply with the GDOT utility locate contract requirements. An emphasis is placed on the Large Project Ticket Procedures.
NPDES 1A Course & Exam
This 8-hour State certified NPDES Level 1A (Blue Card) Course is for Contractors, Builders, Site Superintendents, Grading and Utility Contractors, Developers, and Monitoring Consultants involved with land disturbing activities over one acre. This course will give an overview of the NPDES permits issued by Georgia Environmental Protection Division.
NPDES 1B Course & Exam
This two-day State certified NPDES Level 1B (Red Card) Course is for Regulatory Enforcement Inspectors and individuals contracted to perform regulatory work. This course covers the role of the Inspector to help ensure job site compliance and what types of enforcement action will be taken against those who fail to comply with the NPDES Permits, erosion and sediment control in Georgia.
OSHA 10 Hour Construction Basic Safety
This 10-hour basic safety construction course is authorized by the USDOL and covers electrical safety, excavation and trenching safety, fall protection, fire prevention and protection, hand and power tool safety, hazard communication, heavy equipment safety, personal protective equipment, recordkeeping, and OSHA’s focused inspection initiative.
